Choosing Wallpaper For Kitchens

Whether you’re going for a full-scale redesign or simply want to make a statement behind the sink, kitchen wallpaper can offer an easy way to add flair. From traditional patterns to more contemporary designs, there’s a huge selection available. But before you buy kitchen wallpaper, it’s important to choose a design that can withstand the demands of a busy household.

The good news is that many of the latest kitchen wallpaper styles can hold their own when it comes to style and function. While thin traditional wallpapers tend to absorb unpleasant odours and can easily become damp and soiled, thicker alternatives such as vinyl and washable Novamura wallpapers are hard-wearing and wipe clean with a cloth or sponge dampened with mild cleaner.

There’s a wide range of patterns available in kitchen wallpaper, but bold prints tend to work best for smaller rooms as they have a space-expanding effect. If you love the idea of patterned wallpaper but aren’t sure how to pull it off, try hanging it above eye level. As well as preventing the room from feeling too busy, it draws the eye upwards and makes the space feel bigger.

When choosing a pattern for your kitchen, it’s essential to take into account the color scheme and cabinetry. If your cabinets are wood-grain finish, for example, opt for a wallpaper that matches the tone of the grain. Similarly, if you have white cabinets, choose a coordinating or neutral-toned paper to prevent the room from becoming too stark.

Another great option for kitchens is green wallpaper, which is a classic, warm, and timeless choice. Entwined with the enduring beauty of nature, it’s a perfect match for a wide variety of kitchen styles. From subtle and serene to vibrant and energetic, there’s a green wallpaper for every mood.

For a bright and cheerful kitchen, nothing beats a fun, graphic print. A playful yellow plaid wallpaper, for example, packs a punch and looks particularly great paired with dark wooden cabinets. Or, consider papering the backs of wall shelves for a simple yet effective DIY project that can transform an otherwise dull storage area. Not only does this bring a pop of color to your kitchen, but it also provides an extra layer of storage and keeps everyday items close at hand.
