How to Choose Home Office Wallpaper

Home office wallpaper is a great way to add style and personality to a room that many of us spend long hours in. Whether you are a full-time freelancer, a fairweather home worker or simply a stay-at-home parent with a sideline passion, this kind of decor gives your workspace a fresh look and helps you to keep focused.

Colour has a powerful psychological effect on us, and knowing how it influences productivity levels is crucial when it comes to designing a work space. Yellow and orange can be stimulating for the mind, while blue promotes calmness. Red is also an excellent choice for work that involves a hands-on element, as it stimulates our senses and creates a high energy atmosphere. But don’t go overboard with bright colors as they can be overwhelming and distracting. Instead, opt for neutrals or subtle patterns.

A wallpaper pattern is another important factor to consider when choosing the right look for your home office. A busy design may be too distracting for some people, while a geometric wall mural with a 3D element can be more eye-catching than a plain solid and offer much more detail.

It’s also important to consider the size of your workspace, as larger rooms can be able to support bolder wallpaper designs while a small box room may look too small if you choose a dark shade. Lastly, it’s a good idea to choose a color that compliments your existing furniture and decor, as it will be easier to coordinate than if you were to paint the entire room.

If you are worried that a bold print might be too much for your home office, it’s easy to create an impactful focal point with just one feature wall. Alternatively, try working in thirds by wallpapering the skirting upward to around one-third up the wall or where a natural dado rail might sit. Then use a different shade or even a plain wallpaper for the remaining walls. You can always fix a length of moulding over the join to cover the wallpaper edge, if you want to make it completely seamless.

Aside from adding a splash of colour to your space, home office wallpaper can be easier and quicker to clean than painting the walls. It’s also a much more cost-effective way to transform your workspace. Depending on the type of wallpaper you choose, some can even be wiped down with a damp cloth to keep them looking new for longer.

With many of us working from home during this Pandemic and series of lockdowns, it’s worth considering the best ways to decorate your home work space. Home office wallpaper is a great way to enliven your desk area, and the range of designs on offer mean there’s something to suit everyone. However you decide to use your home office, it’s important to create a clear divide between this work area and the rest of the house. Contrasting home office wallpaper ideas, paired back prints and room sectioning will help to achieve this.
